Expectations of the Kids

· Attend practice regularly – understanding that sometimes-important conflicts do arise. (Part of our philosophy is to teach kids the importance of commitment.)

· Attend tournaments as regularly as possible – Not required to attend every tournament, but we encourage it as much as possible. Try to avoid having kids “drop off” in the 2nd half of the year (due to baseball, soccer, etc.) – We feel it’s important for them to wrestle Freestyle/Greco!!
· Proper behavior in practice & tournaments – They must listen/pay attention when we are talking and demonstrating wrestling technique. Expected to work on what we show them and not screw around during practice. (NOTE: However, we will do several things to attempt to keep it fun and hold their attention.) Demonstrate appropriate sportsmanship at tournaments.

Equipment Required

· Water bottles for practice.

· Wrestling shoes – we may still have some if you can’t find any
· Singlets – red/blue, they must have them by the first tournament
· Head gear – required at some tournaments, knee pads – optional
· If have any old gear outgrown by your wrestler, please donate to our stash and we can make available to someone else.
· Darkhorse Apparel – order forms will be passed out

· Various tasks related to weekly tournament
.
     1. Scoring & Timing – Volunteer who’s willing to contact/coordinate parent volunteers for this task from week-to-week. (generally, we should have 6 – 8 people earmarked for this each week)
     2. Pairing – requires some training, which is available. (We will need some people committed to do this on almost a weekly basis.) Amanda Cortez will be giving a clinic
     3. Officials – Not required to have prior experience. Clinics/training available as well. (We will need some people committed to do this on an almost weekly basis.)
     4. Weigh-ins – Usually Thursday nights, during practices.
     5. Awards – A volunteer who’s willing to stay to the conclusion of the tournament each weekend to collect the awards. Then prepare a spreadsheet (using the roster), detailing all the placers (and team place if applicable). Responsible to report this to the newspaper and e-mail.

· Conduct at Tournaments – we have specifically selected coaches based on their previous background in wrestling. THIS IS KEY!! LET THE COACHES DO THE COACHING. STAY BEHIND THE SECURITY BARRIER, OFF THE WRESTLING FLOOR AND OUT OF THE CORNER, SO THE KIDS CAN HEAR THE COACHES!!! If you have questions about anything, just ask us.......
